Electromechanical Switches
Overview
An electromechanical switch relies on electrical contacts to make/break an electrical connection or divert current flow to a different electrical path.

Contact material selection is critical when designing an electromechanical switch since switches can be used to handle a broad range of voltages, temperatures, and countless other application conditions. Typically, power transmitting switches will use silver/copper refractory contacts, as those materials exhibit considerably better arc wear resistance when compared to alternate contact material types.
